So we went away for 5 days last week.
We went to Bunn Leisure caravan park in Selsey near Chichester.
What happened? what did we do? what did I think?
Well we had a wonderful time. we were blessed with sunshine, as well as a nice wind from the sea, we had a lovely caravan nice and clean and spacious for the two of us. The park was clean and quite, although I expect it will be nosier in the main season.
Monday we travelled down hearing about the death, assassination of Bin Laden. I found it disturbing, as in the past I have always been of the mind that you don’t take terrorists prisoner, as it opens the way to hostage taking to free them. However Now I wonder at the righteousness of killing an unarmed man. At least they did it so no one else died or got hit by missiles. Still revenge is not that Christian, a trail would have been better.
Tuesday, Our first visit was to the Tangmere Air Museum, it was an old RAF airfield which closed in the 60’s. It had various aircraft there as well as a lot of personal stories from WWII pilots.
Bern and I where both touched by the news film clips of the bombing of civilians, both of us thinking of the People in Libya and the fact that war always targets the innocent. All sides use propaganda to show there enemies as animals and devils and show themselves as pure and good. In reality War is hell and all sides do all they can to win and destroying the other sides will to fight is part of it. Jesus said to love your enemy not hate him. Hating people just be-gets more hate and more hate, sometimes it is right to fight but it should not be done with hate or making your enemy out to be worse than you.
Round the back of the museum was a Memorial Garden, this was a lovely place of peace where the names of those who lost there lives here were placed.
It was a moving place, a place of sorrow and beauty, a place of loss and new life a place of contrast with the weapons of war nearby.
While we were going round the museum we saw a lot of older men who helped there, who had all been part of this places history, they were trying to help people who had never thought about the effect of war understand it a little. One man said that Children being taught History should have it start here and I think he was right. History is more than just facts and figures it is real people who suffered.
Following Tangmere we went to Chichester, a lovely place. We had a look round and Bern did a bit of shopping, then we went to look around the cathedral. Unlike Bath it is free to enter, as a place of worship should be. It had some wonderful art glorifying the Father, Jesus and the Spirit. It had places for private worship and places celebrating others faithfulness. Unlike some of these places there was helpers around who where not intrusive but there to help. I felt that it showed God and peoples love for him in a easy non pushy way leaving you to hear God speak if you wanted.
A wonderful day, seeing two of man’s greatest achievements a building to God and war machines. Which is better, neither I think as both were done to show mans power and not Gods.
Wednesday, we visited a old friend of mine for the day. We played games all afternoon while Bern visited a relative near by. It was great to see Dave and his wife and spend time with them, Deloras made some wonderful food for us as well. It is great to see old friends particularly ones we don’t get to see very often.
Thursday we went to a NT place but it was closed so we went to Midhurst for lunch. Midhurst is a old medieval town with lots of old buildings, most of them adapted as the years have gone on, interestingly they don’t allow the big stores to change the frontage to there standard one but to use what they have. Something Bath should have learnt a long time ago.
Afterwards we went to UPPARK another NT place nearby and looked around there. This place had burnt down in 1989 and has been rebuilt, you would never know it had suffered such destruction except for the exhibition on it.
Interestingly it was rebuilt just as it was the day before it burnt down, It made me think about people who having gone through a trail in life just start back where they were before rather than a new place. Christ wants us to start anew not back where we were, that’s why baptism is about dying to your old self and starting new.
Thursday finished with us in Bogner, a run down seaside town much in need of work. We wanted to find somewhere to eat and choose a Chinese, but it wasn’t that good as some of the food was undercooked.
Friday, the day after the elections we headed home. The news was all about the hammering the LibDems had suffered. Well I suppose that was always likely as many people find it hard to differentiate between local and national things and they blame Nick for the cuts even though they would have happened anyway. Blame the bankers who made the money and then got us to cover the lossses.
As to the AV vote well, no surprise there either, I wonder if a proper PR system would have done better. Unfortunately that was not on offer as the Tory’s had no interest in it. I would have preferred a PR system as I have always supported it but AV was better than nothing. O well that is it for quite some time now.
Then there is Scotland and Wales, both firmly rejecting any Tory influence in there affairs and in Scotland’s case opening up the way to independence. So will we see the end of a united kingdom, I doubt it, I don’t think there is enough support for that, but we will see more power being moved to there own parliament, I think.
All in all a good week, although I am now suffering for it as my health has given up again and I have a infection. Never mind that is the cost of doing things.
